Starting gymnastics is an exciting step for many children and their parents. At BK’s Gymnastics, we aim to make that first experience smooth, safe, and enjoyable. Here’s what you can expect when your child walks into their first class.
A Warm Welcome
From the moment you arrive, our team is ready to greet you. BK’s Gymnastics prides itself on creating a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly environment. Our qualified coaches are trained under the National Coaches Accreditation Scheme and have current working with children checks. Many also hold tertiary qualifications in physical education, and all participate in regular training to ensure best practice.
What to Bring
For ongoing classes, your child will need:
- A refillable water bottle clearly labelled with their name
For holiday programs, pack:
- Water bottle
- Snack for half-day sessions
- Morning tea, lunch (nut-free), and afternoon tea for full-day sessions
- Active kids need extra fuel, so pack more than you would for a regular school day1.
What to Wear
Children should wear close-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows free movement. These guidelines help ensure safety on the gym floor. Recommended options include:
- Shorts or leggings
- T-shirt, crop top, or leotard
- Avoid baggy clothing, skirts, tutus, headbands, clips, and jewellery.
- Long hair must be tied back.
Safety and Supervision
BK’s venues are affiliated with Recreational Gymnastics Australia and are fully insured. Coaches supervise all activities, and emergency procedures are in place for fire, power outages, and lockdowns. Parents are asked to remain on-site until class begins and return before it ends to collect their child.
Enrolment and Communication
Before your first class, make sure your enrolment is complete via the Active World app. This portal allows you to:
- Book classes
- Notify absences and arrange make-up sessions
- Track your child’s progress
- Communicate with centre staff
If you haven’t received confirmation of your booking, check your junk email folder or contact your centre directly.
Final Tip
Arrive a little early to help your child settle in, meet their coach, and get familiar with the space. The first class is all about building comfort and confidence, and having fun.
