Cheer

Ages 5-12

About the program

Our BK’s Cheer program is designed for children aged 5 to 12 who are eager to try cheerleading! The objective of these classes is to teach the fundamentals of cheerleading across all aspects and to build a strong foundation. Our cheerleaders will learn how to stunt, tumble, jump, and dance.

Each class follows a written program based on specific skill competencies, ensuring our cheerleaders develop strong foundations from the ground up. Mastering basic skills is essential for developing more advanced abilities. Our skill competencies provide a visible focus on skill progression, building confidence and ability, and paving the way for an athlete’s pathway in cheerleading.

What is Cheerleading?

Cheerleading is a dynamic and athletic activity that combines elements of dance, gymnastics, acrobatics, and team coordination. It is both a recreational and competitive sport, focusing on building physical fitness, teamwork, and self-confidence. Cheerleaders learn to perform routines that include stunts (lifting and supporting teammates), tumbling (gymnastics-style flips and rolls), jumps, and choreographed dance sequences.

Key Components Taught in the Program

  • Stunting: Learning safe techniques for lifting, holding, and supporting teammates in the air. Stunting builds trust, communication, and strength.
  • Tumbling: Developing gymnastic skills such as rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, and handsprings, which are foundational for more advanced cheerleading moves.
  • Jumps: Practicing a variety of jumps to improve flexibility, coordination, and explosive power.
  • Dance: Incorporating dance routines to enhance rhythm, musicality, and performance skills.

Program Structure and Progression

  • Skill-Based Curriculum: Each class is structured around a progression of skills, ensuring that athletes master the basics before moving on to more complex techniques.
  • Confidence and Teamwork: The program emphasizes building confidence, resilience, and a positive team environment. Cheerleading is highly collaborative, and athletes learn to support and encourage each other.
  • Pathways for Growth: As children progress, they have opportunities to participate in performances, showcases, or even competitive cheerleading if they wish to pursue the sport further.

Benefits of Cheerleading for Children
